  Laura Meli
Marketing Communication Specialist - Italy

What is the first thing you do when you get started with work for the day?

First of all, I check my mailbox. It’s very important for me to review any new requests before organizing and planning my daily activities.

What are your main areas of focus in your work as a Communication Specialist?

I inform our patients and healthcare professionals on any ConvaTec news, activities and our programmes such as me+™ , by using various communication channels including our website, ConTatto Magazine (Italian Magazine dedicated for people with ostomies), social media, events and newsletters. It’s amazing; it’s always a challenge for me to find the best way to communicate what’s new.

How do you organize/structure your work day with tasks/projects?

I schedule all my activities based on my priorities and different deadlines. I prefer to start with any materials that will be sent directly to our patients; it’s very important for me to understanding our patients’ needs, and to develop materials for them, especially within our me+™ programme.

As a Communication Specialist, do you collaborate with a team or mainly work autonomously? Which do you prefer?

Both. I strongly believe in team working because I think that a lot of solutions come from sharing ideas. I often collaborate with our Customer Interaction Centers and it is important to understand our patients’ feelings. I also enjoy working autonomously, especially when I need to concentrate on specific activities, like writing articles for ConTatto magazine. I love writing. When I am alone with the white paper, I have a chance to give a voice to all our customers and I consider it a "magic moment". Searching for meaningful words to share is very stimulating.

Which part of your work do you enjoy the most, and why?

I love meeting patients! During patient events, I release how important my job is; our products really do improve the patients’ quality of life. ConvaTec gives me the opportunity to know different people, and be able to share their stories. When patients tell me thanks for all the things you do, they reward me for all my efforts.

If you had more hours in the day to focus on new skills related to your job or projects for your work, what would you focus on?

I would like to have more time to improve my communication skills, both for contents and technical tools to reach all audiences. I think that we all have the power to improve everything we do!

What is your special skill/ magic power/ hobby you’re proud of?

I like dancing, singing and spending my free time with my family, my friends and my cat! I also love art and I am very lucky to be able to live in Rome. Sometimes I visit my city like a tourist and I love discovering its hidden secrets.
