Advanced Wound Care

The Group’s Advanced Wound Care category provides advanced wound dressings and skin care products used for the management of acute and chronic wounds resulting from conditions such as diabetes, immobility and venous disease, as well as from traumatic injury, burns, invasive surgery and other causes.

Our comprehensive portfolio of advanced wound dressings includes antimicrobial and foam dressings, both of which are used by healthcare professionals to manage chronic wounds associated with ageing, such as pressure ulcers, venous leg ulcers and diabetic foot ulcers.  We have also expanded our offerings in the acute wound area, where the potential for infection is a clinical and institutional concern, for instance with partial-thickness burns and surgical-site incisions.

Key products include our AQUACEL® line of advanced dressings, which features ConvaTec’s proprietary Hydrofiber® Technology. These advanced dressings provide a wound contact layer that transforms into a gel on contact with wound fluid, absorbing and retaining excess exudate (a fluid emitted at the site of a wound) to help capture bacteria and create an optimal healing environment. The gel contours to the wound bed to help minimise dead space where bacteria can grow.

For 20 years, AQUACEL® and Hydrofiber® Technology have been helping specialists address the challenges of hard-to-heal wounds, and improving patients’ quality of life.  Originally developed to manage wound exudate, the technology evolved with the addition of ionic silver to help manage and reduce risk of wound infection and, most recently, with the inclusion of Ag+ advanced technology to combat wound biofilm – key barriers to wound healing.

The benefits of this technology can now also be found in our Avelle Negative Pressure Wound Therapy System. ConvaTec’s recently introduced disposable NPWT system is designed to give patients more mobility, helping them resume their daily lives, both in and out of the home, as their wounds heal.
