Convatec community partnerships help change lives
As part of the company’s Forever Caring Month, more than 1000 lives have been improved through hundreds of hours of volunteering and $220,000 in donations to support local wellbeing, health and education programmes
(Reading, UK; 12 January 2023) - Convatec Group Plc, a global medical solutions company focused on the management of chronic conditions, held its first Forever Caring Month at the end of 2022. The initiative aimed to bring to life practical support for communities local to Convatec offices and manufacturing sites.
Employees were encouraged to use their annual volunteering days to support local groups on issues close to their heart. Hundreds of employees got involved and supported organisations based in over 15 countries. Also, as part of Convatec’s established Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) programme, Convatec Cares, we donated $220,000 in charitable grants to communities near our manufacturing sites:
- Wales: Convatec supported several charities across the country. In Rhymney, south Wales, funding will enable the Helping Hands Cancer Self-Help Group to reinstate its Hospital Transport Service. In Deeside, north Wales, funding will help the Enbarr Foundation restore community rooms at the John Summer’s Building, an education and learning facility for the local community, as well as the modernisation of the inpatient unit for the Nightingale House Hospice.
- Denmark: Convatec supported Broen in Herlev, an organisation that engages socially disadvantaged children and young people through social and recreational activities. The donation will support activities ranging from football to horse riding and dance for 30 children in 2023. In Osted, Convatec supported the Danish Diabetes Association through the expansion of their mentoring, wellbeing and mental health programme for children and young people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes.
- Slovakia: Convatec supported Centrum pre deti a rodiny Remetské Hámre (Centre for Children and Families) in Michalovce. Of 83 children currently in their care, about 70% have medical conditions. The donation will support the improvement of facilities for recreation, as well as digital programming and a safe relaxation room for therapy.
- Dominican Republic: Convatec supported a partnership between the non-profit organisations Aurum and Fundacion Amigos Contra el Cancer Infantil (FACCI) in Haina. FACCI runs a range of programmes including psychosocial support and medical diagnosis and treatment. This donation will enable FACCI to support children with colostomy conditions. Aurum is the only non-profit organisation in the Dominican Republic that focuses solely on children with colostomy conditions.
- Mexico: Convatec supported Voluntad Contra el Cancer, a non-profit organisation that supports children ages 0-17 who are struggling with cancer in Reynosa. The organisation helps children in treatment with medications, studies, laboratories, blood transfusions, and food.
Karim Bitar, CEO, Convatec Group, said: “At Convatec, we recognise that to deliver our vision, we must have a positive impact beyond our core operations. Forever Caring Month embodies our promise to all those we serve and helps us build even closer connections with local communities, improve lives, and give back to society around issues important to all of us. Ultimately, we all recognise that forever caring is a promise we make to our customers, colleagues and communities all year round.”
